About the Class:

From little seeds grow the mighty trees!

Vedic Hinduism is one of the oldest classroom programs in Bridgewater temple running for more than 20 years now. It started as an initiative to introduce Vedic Hinduism to the kids. Vedic Hinduism classes provide children with knowledge of principles and disciplines of our religion alongside exposure to our culture. The Vedic principles are prescribed ways to lead life with Prosperity and Happiness. There are commonalities which represent the bedrock of the religion, expressed and reflected in the ancient writings of the Vedas. The goal is to instill these messages in the young minds provoking them to ponder and express their thoughts felicitating a yearning to understand and dwell deeper into the messages given through scriptures and traditional beliefs.

In order to achieve this Goal both the teachers and children work Kaya, Vaacha, Manasa pertaining to Body, Speech and Mind respectively. Hence the structure of the class is such that the all the three above mentioned concepts are worked upon with Yoga asanas for the Body, Prayers for the Speech and moral stories from the puranas for the mind.

Yoga Asana: An asana is a body posture, a term for any type of pose or position. Yoga, a form of exercise including reclining, standing, inverted, twisting, and balancing poses with one being steady and comfortably able to work all the eight limbs of the body.

Daily Prayers: Recitation of the daily prayers from the compilation of Dr. M.G.Prasad’s book of Daily prayers for children to be able to recite at ease and learn the meaning of the same.

Bhagavad Gita recitation: Children learn to recite the Bhagavad Gita, which is a guide and handbook for all the questions that arise in life. The emphasis is on the children to memorize the verses and achieve accurate pronunciation.

Stories: Brings familiarity to the puranas, learn about our great epics and the characters of the same in order to apply those principles and ideas in our day to day life giving the children a better understanding of our scriptures and reasoning abilities. This brings out the creativity in the children provoking them to ask more questions. These moral stories will create a very interactive classroom set up where children will freely be able to express their thoughts without hesitation.
