Language Classes - Hindi

About the Class:

The Hindi classes will be following the HindiUSA syllabus.

Starter 1 will be for 5-year-old children who have no previous exposure to the language, Starter 2 is for children for children between 5 and 6 years old with previous exposure to the language. Beginner1 will be for older children who have exposure to the language or have completed Starter 2 level. (Class teachers / volunteers will evaluate if the child is ready for Beginner I).

Class will be conducted using study material and books from HindiUSA. Study material and books will be purchased by Temple Hindi class volunteers, payments shall be made at least 2 weeks before the start of the class.

Children will be presented with a certificate/medal at the successful completion of the class.

Syllabus & Levels:

  • Learn at least 3 words beginning with each letter.
  • Learn to say several phrases.
  • Focus on new vocabular words in conversation while teaching letters and words.
  • Read, write and speak numbers, his/her own first and last names.
  • Memorize five poems and know their meaning.
  • Starter I  
    •  Introduction to Hindi language.
    • Create interest in learning Hindi and immerse the child in the Hindi environment.
    • Focus on oral, visual, and musical criteria (no reading or writing).
    • Learn numbers, colors, animals, and about everyday household objects.
    • Learn greetings and simple command in Hindi.
    • Learn simple conversation through story books.
    • Identify relatives (mother, father, etc.) in Hindi.
    • Talk about Indian festivals, dresses.
    • Play simple games (Simon says), in Hindi for child to understand actions.

    PROFICIENCY TEST

    • Class conversation and weekly homework assignments.
    • Final Oral Exam.
    Starter 2  
    • Develop understanding of how Hindi is spoken though stories and poetries.
    • Understand common commands.
    • Understand and recognize daily objects.
    • Learn write and sound Hindi vowels.
    • Learn two words that start with each vowel.
    • Introduction to Hindi consonants.
    • Learn poems, songs, and stories.
    • Learn greetings in Hindi.
    • Learn to have simple conversation with friends and relatives.
    • Write first name in Hindi.
    • Count and write numbers from 1 to 10
    • Recognize Indian festivals and dresses.
    • Speak simple sentence.

    PROFICIENCY TEST

    • Oral test mid-session.
    • Oral test at the end of the session.
    Beginner 1  
    • Learn to read, write and pronounce Hindi letters.
    • Learn at least 3 words beginning with each letter.
    • Learn to say several phrases.
    • Focus on new vocabular words in conversation while teaching letters and words.
    • Read, write and speak numbers, his/her own first and last names.
    • Memorize five poems and know their meaning.

    PROFICIENCY TEST

    • Weekly written homework.
    • Oral/written test mid-session.
    • Oral/written test at the end of the session.
    Beginner 2  
    • Introduce words by learning to join two letters together to form small words.
    • Learn at least three words beginning with each constant
    • Learn to read and write three letter and four letter words.
    • Learn question words, pronouns etc. through conversation.
    • Vocabulary and related conversation using class room objects, household objects, occupations, and Indian food.
    • Understanding the use of "maatra" and pronounce the words which contain maatras.
    • Enchance the understanding of Hindi language.

    PROFICIENCY TEST

    • Weekly written homework.
    • Oral/written test mid-session.
    • Oral/written test at the end of the session.

    Saturdays 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm EST

    Registration:

    Registration must be completed prior to attending the class. Prior to registering, make sure you check with the class contact regarding the availability of seats at the proper level for the student as the registration fee is not refundable.

    $50 temple donation for class registration.

    Additional $40 to HindiUSA for study material and books, $30 to HindiUSA for the tests to be paid to Hindi class coordinator/teacher/volunteer
